Iraq and the American gas pump
"We have won the war in Iraq." Brilliant Mr. Bush said.
Mr.Bush, I am sorry to disappoint you, but we haven't won a jack. Let's be frank with each other boss, can we be frank? We went inside Iraq for one real reason: The sweet sexy black gold. You call it in Texas "Oil".
The prices at the gas pump are the biggest evidence sir. We spent billion of dollars, and even more important, thousands of lives, just for the oil, and we have failed. Where is the Iraqi oil going?! I am quite sure there will never be an honest answer to it. Probably your administration and the confusing commercial media, will take us in circles and circles to end up nowhere.
Sad really, we've destroyed a country than nestled a great culture for thousands of years. Saddam may be a dictator or blood thirsty monster, according to early White house reports, but funny .. or sad enough, more people were killed since USA, UK and their allies invaded Iraq, than in Saddam's time.
Some came to the conclusion that oil prices are going up because of the OPEC countries. They are mostly Arab, Anti-American countries, that will love to see all the western world suffer. That could be right, but can you blame them? America uses its muscles ( the armed forces) and the Arabs use their oil. Fair game.
The thing is we knew it was coming. Oil is a non-renewable source of energy. Many scientist kept screaming "find cheap alternative fuels" but the American administration never listened. Most of Capital Hill found "Alternative fuels" a fancy expression. The oil lobby found it a scary one. Well, good job both of you.
If the gas prices keep going up, the first nation in the world to suffer, will be America. People drive miles and miles per day. A life without a car in most states, means the end of living. You can't go to work or the market without a car. The public transportation network in most USA states, are as good as our management of the Iraqi war. The
media keep suggestion that people should use bicycles or public transportation in America and limit their usage of private cars. Bicycles in America!! Some people commute 20 miles one way to get to work? Are they suppose to paddle that far everyday !
Anyway, what should America do? America need to save all that mad money getting spent in Iraq, and use it to subsidize the cost of gas. This is the least a country can do in tough times to help its citizens, who usually pay their taxes on time and work as hard as slaves. Meanwhile, we need to pay some scientist to come up with fast and efficient alternative to oil, regardless of all the none sense the oil lobby and interest groups will come up with. Having a brain is a blessing.
